I hate to sound like a broken record but the more of these wriggly blighters you have in your soil the great success you will in your gardening endeavors.
Soil that is tilled with worms has four to six times the water holding capacity of soil lacking in worms, this means more water is stored in the ground for dry spells (not uncommon in Australia!) and less runs off into water ways, flooding streams etc.
Worm castings have more than twice the carbon content of normal soil along with 40% more Nitrogen, seven times more Phosphorus and up to seven times the Potassium content, all they ask is not to be disturbed i.e. no rotary hoeing or harsh digging and plenty of food (organic matter).
Organic Matter consists of Newspaper, Cardboard, any sort of soft Mulch, it doesn't really matter just keep feeding the Worms and they will keep feeding your soil and plants with fresh food.
