Winter Vegetables

If you are heading into winter you have one of two choices, one if the soil is in need of a bit of TLC then a Green Mulch Crop will greatly improve your Garden, or secondly a crop of winter vegetables to keep  regular fresh veges coming in. Depending on were you are and the severety of your winters, veges like Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Carrots, Peas, Green Onions, Radish all thrive through a normal winter and Broccoli actually improves in sweetness with a few frosts.
Get down to your local Garden Centre and see what sort of seedling plants they have on sale at the time, this is a great way to see what best suits your climate. Also check the back of seed packets, these usually have maps of were and when crops can be grown.
A good rule of thumb though if you haven;t done it already is to have a quarter of your garden in Green Mulch every winter to be turned back into the soil in the spring to build Organic Matter in the soil.
