How to make an Earth Worm Farm

This process is a simple and easy way to make an Earth Worm Farm and grow your own Worm Castings and multiply the worm population in your garden.

 In either a ten or twenty litre bucket, cut ten holes the size of a twenty cent piece in the bottom and bottom half of the bucket, bury this in the ground so that 100 mm is still sticking out of the ground.

Make a mixture of one third shredded newspaper/cardboard/natural fibre clothes-animal manure (other than chicken manure, it is to hot for this application) and vegetable scraps, add a small handful of lime if you have some to sweeten the brew.

Place this brew in the buried bucket and moisten it with some water, don't over water as it will go putrid and not work. Cover with a lid and something heavy on it to keep the animals out.
Check it every couple of weeks and add more water if dry and also top it up with more scraps etc if needed.

Earth Worms sniff the brew out and invade the bucket turning the ingredients into a nutrient rich compost which then can be used in the garden, this will take two to three months normally.

Harvest the Compost leaving some worms behind to start the next batch, this is very strong so a little goes a long way.

Grab a handful Worms and all and place it on your Garden bed for ten minutes or so, the worms leave the castings and disappear into your soil to weave their magic, you can then use the castings for Liquid Fertiliser or applying directly to the soil.

Don't bury the bucket under a tree as the roots of the tree will rob the bucket of all the worms hard work.
