I had an enquiry regarding spraying during flowering on Fuit Trees.
The tree had Mealy bug and was starting to show signs of Sooty Mould, so it was time to get something done.
If you spray a Chemical Insecticide while there are flowers about you run the risk of both killing any Bees that are there at the time but also potentially the whole hive.
An Insecticide sprayed onto flowers is taken back to the hive by Bees working those flowers after the application and then is consumed by other Bees in that hive killing them.
Spraying Oil is a useful non-chemical Insecticide for sucking Insects and is safe to use while a tree is in flower, spraying during the day however can still disturb foraging Bees so spray at the end of the day when they are tucked up in bed and they will be back to pollinate your flowers the next day.
