Successful Sunflower growing is simple with a few issues taken care of.
1. Good shelter is essential, they don't like being battered by the wind and the larger varieties are prone to falling over once the flower head is formed. If you live in a windy spot grow them against a wall or along a fence line so they can be tied to the fence for support.
2. Pre-soak the seed in either a seaweed or fish fertiliser solution for a few hours prior to sowing, once the seed has swelled with the brew it is ready to sow.
3. Feed them plenty of fertiliser/manure, they are gross feeders and need plenty of goodies to reach their potential.
Have a go they are a rewarding flower.
Be Happy,
Barry.
