Why use Organic Fertiliser rather than Chemical, Chemical Fert is cheaper and easier to use and initially gives spectacular results, so why bother with that bulky smelly stuff?
The biggest disadvantage of Chemical Fertiliser is the salt concentration, salt is nice on your fish and chips but not so good on your plants and soil. Salt over time kills the soil microbe life which can lead to a collapse of the soil structure. Container grown plants don't enjoy too much salt unless the pot is flushed regularly with copious amounts of water to get rid of the salt build up.
Organic Fertilisers although bulky and need to be dug into the soil for the best results do give the best results in the long term, they feed the soil microbes, build humus and create a healthy soil environment for roots to grow in, which in turn produces a healthy plant. As for liquid ferts my favourite is Fish, it has a well balanced NPK ratio and feeds the soil as well. I have seen some spectacular plants grown in soil that had fish bodies buried in it under the plants. With liquid Fish Fertiliser the plants won't leap out of the ground initially but will grow to be strong healthy and pest resilient.
